Nepal is a sovereign landlocked country in South Asia bordering with Tibet in the north and India in the south, east and west. It is mainly in the Himalayas, but also includes parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Nepal has a diverse geography, including fertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains (above 8000m), including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Kathmandu is the capital and the largest city. Nepal is multi-ethnic country, with Nepali as the official language.

Nepal is blessed with mountainous region and varied topographical terrain. Nearly 80% of its land is covered by hills and mountains and the rest by plains, lowlands and river valleys.


Nepal has a unique geographical position & altitude variation. The elevation of the country ranges from 60 meter above sea level to the highest point on earth, Mount Everest at 8848 meter, all within a distance of 150 kilometer resulting in climatic conditions from sub-tropical to Arctic.


UNESCO has listed 10 World Heritage Sites in Nepal; Chitwan National Park & Sagarmatha National Park as UNESCO Natural Heritage Sites; 7 sites in Kathmandu Valley as listed below and Lumbini – the birthplace of Lord Buddha as UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Sites.
